About the artist
Noel Korten’s paintings are illusionistic representations derived from his photographs of eroding desert rock formations. His sculptural ‘log pieces’ are found objects that have been altered so that viewer can look inside them. Both present the viewer with ambiguities and play on the idea that our perceptions involve ‘re-cognition’ and that are both self-limited and self-illuminating.
Korten was a midwesterner who moved to L.A. 50+ years ago. He earned an MFA from USC and rented his first studio on Market Street in Inglewood in 1977. He worked as an exhibition director for USC and the City of Los Angeles from 1982 – 2004 and curated and/or directed well over 100 public exhibitions in the Los Angeles area. He has been exhibiting his own artwork since the early 1970s and participated in the 2015 ‘Inside the Quad’ exhibition at Otis that featured many Inglewood based artists.
