Until quite recently I have worked with recycled materials to create sculptural work. The past few years I have been making prints on Plexiglas using photographs I have taken of both my own sculptural pieces along with images of the desert landscape where I have a home. More recently the images of my work in my work have disappeared and I am more focused now on presenting and commenting on the landscape alone.

The interesting aspect of working in these two very different media is that the motivation and conversation are quite alike. Viewing either a found object or a landscape in a new way, by separating it from its original source, is an awakening. My concerns are with composition and pattern. Complex relationships emerge from simple juxtapositions. A “right” combination can express tension, spontaneity, gravity and inevitability. My hope is that the viewer experiences these dynamics in viewing these pieces, as if coming upon an event in midstream.

I have had a studio in Inglewood for well over 20 years. I have exhibited my work in Los Angeles, New York and Denver. Some years ago I was commissioned to construct an outdoor sculpture piece constructed of found materials for a children’s science museum in Vancouver to teach the virtues of recycling. I recently completed a body of work about Alzheimer’s, as a way of dealing with and witnessing the disease my mother suffered with. I am having a show of that work next year at a gallery in South LA. Also, next year I am scheduled to have an exhibit of my new print work at a gallery at Bergamot Station, Lois Lambert gallery.
