About the artist

Jakiyah Cabell is a BIPOC-femme multidisciplinary artist and film director born and raised in Los Angeles. Her work spans the intersections of music, film, photography, and painting, serving as a living archive that captures the essence of her community and culture. Jakiyah exclusively shoots on 35mm film, embracing the raw, tactile quality of the medium while experimenting with various forms to push creative boundaries. Her art often blends the visual and sonic, creating immersive worlds that resonate deeply. As a storyteller, she seamlessly transitions from collaborating with musicians to shoot and design evocative album covers to directing and writing short films. Most recently, Jakiyah has designed a collection of hand-dyed silk scarves, incorporating images and photographic studies captured by her on 35mm film. Her artistry extends to collaborations with non-profits in Los Angeles and Inglewood, where she uses her work as a powerful tool for storytelling, history-making, and cultural preservation.
