About the artist

David Eddington was born in London. He studied at the Central School of Art in London; after graduating with a MFA he lived variously in Southern India, Italy, and England. His practice as a visual artist has been consistent, primarily large-scale paintings in both acrylic and oils. A frequent exhibitor with Gallery Siâu in Amsterdam, he has also had regular shows in Spain and the UK. Eddington was a tenured professor at Plymouth University, Devon, relocating to the US in 2000. Initially based in New Orleans, he lectured at Loyola University and LSU Baton Rouge, showing work at various Sothern galleries including NOLA’s Contemporary Art Center. Eddington now lives and works in Venice, California where he continues to exhibit extensively.

/“For when I paint I look for the reality of the work, a contained research. Although the subconscious resulting works bear reference to art historical they are far from objects of science, or solely political, or as the gallerists looks to the market. I accept that these phonemes happen, though I am not concerned for these considerations when making work. So where does my painting belong? When I paint, it belongs within itself. I am interested in what makes a collection of objects or a painting a work of art, becoming more than the material from which it is constructed and presented. The important element of the work isn’t the “thing” at all, but where it takes you, a search for the truth in being./”
